چکیده

Interactive and dynamic graphical methods provide powerful tools to interface a data analyst with data. For multivariate data, interactive techniques such as linked brushing and identiication allow an analyst to query the data, isolate or mask subsets, and examine dependencies between many variables. Dynamic techniques such as the grand tour give the analyst a sense of the overall shape (clusters or nonlinearities) of the data. This paper reports on research into interactive and dynamic graphical methods applied to spatial data made available through a link between two software packages: ArcView 2.1 TM (a Geographic Information System), and XGobi (a dynamic graphics program for exploratory multivariate data analysis).

Some Dynamic Graphics for Spatial Data (with Multiple Attributes) in a GIS

This paper discusses some multivariate exploratory spatial data analysis tools for detecting spatial dependence. The ideas explored are related to canonical correlation analysis and the graphical tools are related to the dynamic method called the grand tour. The work is implemented with a link between a Geographic Information System, ARC/INFO, and software for exploring multivariate data, XGobi.

Dynamic Graphics in a Gis: a Link between Arc/info Tm and Xgobi

This paper describes a link between a Geographical Information System (GIS), ARC/INFO TM , and an interactive dynamic graphics program, XGobi. GISs provide a user with a standard and convenient software for spatial geographical data. In particular, the GIS ARC/INFO is a combination of two systems: ARC maintains the spatial information of map features and provides tools for spatial analyses whil...

The Linked ArcView 2.1TM and XGobi Environment — GIS, Dynamic Statistical Graphics, and Spatial Data

This paper reports on research into interactive, dynamic statistical graphics (DSG) applied to spatial data maintained within a geographic information system (GIS). We developed a bidirectional link between ArcView 2.1TM, a GIS, and XGobi, a DSG program. Multivariate data, collected at geographic locations, is passed from ArcView to XGobi and can be dynamically analyzed. The relation between th...

Gis , Spatial Statistical Graphics , and Forest Health

This paper discusses the use of a geographic information systems (GIS), Arcview 2.1, linked with a dynamic graphics program, XGobi, in the statistical analysis of spatial data. The link allows multivariate data, collected at geographic locations and stored in Arcview, to be passed into XGobi and analyzed dynamically. The connection between the points in XGobi and the spatial locations from whic...
